Before you start

Two-step verification (2FA) must be switched on in your FamilyTreeDNA account, or the download is refused.

The steps

  1. 1Sign in to your kit.
  2. 2Either: on the dashboard, find Autosomal DNA Results & Tools, click See More and choose Data Download; or: in the top bar, go to Results & Tools > Autosomal DNA > Download Raw Data.
  3. 3Download Build 37 Concatenated Raw data (all autosomal markers plus X).

What you get

A CSV file compressed as .gz. FamilyTreeDNA notes that the built-in Windows and Mac tools do not open GZIP files; a free unzip program is needed. Indaga accepts the .gz as it is.

Good to know

  • A file you transferred to FamilyTreeDNA from another company cannot be downloaded there; use the original company.
  • Since 2 Mar 2026 Family Finder uses sequencing (NGS), and older kits can be upgraded. The upgrade permanently replaces your old raw file, so download the old one first if you want it.

Then

Then upload the .gz file to Indaga as it is; there is no need to unzip it.

The free report shows what the file covers and five trait readings (lactose, alcohol flush, caffeine sensitivity, skin and sun, muscle fibre). No card needed for the free report.
